Roulette is an interesting gambling game frequently played in casinos. In this game, players are required to place bets on numbers (from 1 to 36), set of numbers, the colour red or black or whether the number will be odd or even. Then the croupier spins a wheel which has the numbers matching the one on the roulette desk. He then spins a ball in the opposite direction and when the ball comes to a rest it lands in one of the sections and whatever number it lands in is the selected number. The players who had bet on that number or on that combination of numbers win.

The pay outs in roulette depend on the risk the player has taken. For example: If you bet on a single number then the odds are 35 to 1.   These odds decrease as the risk decreases. Betting on two numbers calls odds of 17 to 1 while betting on 4 numbers calls odds of 8 to 1. This goes on like this and the bets for colours and odd/even number pay 1 to 1.

The betting area on a roulette table is covered by a cloth and is called the layout. The layout is of two types, single zero and double zero. The former is the French roulette while the latter is American roulette style. Players are given chips of varying colours and they place their bets till the croupier doesn’t ring the bell as the ball nears its stopping time. Players can place inside and outside bets. In roulette it mostly depends on a person’s luck or his viewpoint on the game. Some people like to observe the game first and then play. This they say enables them in deciding which numbers are coming frequently and hence they prefer to cover those numbers when they play.

Different number series in roulette have different names attached with them. Voisins Du Zero is the name given to the numbers that are between 22 and 25 on the roulette spinning wheel. The numbers on the opposite of these i. e. those from 27 to 33 are called Tiers. Those numbers that make up the two slices of numbers outside of the Tiers and the Voisins are called the Orphans. Many times at a roulette table, you may hear the croupier taking these names along with announcing the number that wins.

The goal of this game is to win the maximum and predict the number that will come. Many people have devised strategies and probabilities to predict the winning numbers.
